Invest in Support

Life is easier with support

Support can take the form of:

  • Family and friends
  • Emotional support
  • Financial support
  • Psychological support
  • Personal Training
  • Coaching
  • Mentor
  • etc…

Invest in the Right Support

If you don’t have the ‘right’ support in place to support you in your goals, the likelihood of achieving them often is diminished.

The challenge often comes when you are trying to make a change, do something better, or grow in some way.

Families and friends are well-intentioned but often their fears get in the way.

  • They directly or indirectly sabotage you or hold you back from your achieving your goals
  • They feed into your self doubt as they want to protect you from failure and keep you safe
  • They make comments or exhibit behaviors that don’t support you

Often this shows up in ways that keeps you maintaining the status quo

Their doubts, comments and behaviors start to slowly eat away at your courage and self-confidence

If you’re not careful, it can eat away at your dreams.

Your outlook on possibility and no limits can easily change to doubt and stalling progress.

To prevent this…

Invest in the right support to best help you achieve your goals, personal & professional development and growth.

Unsettled

Recently, I had an experience that left me feeling disjointed and unsettled.
At my job, We had some leaders visit for a week.
Some things I observed were:

* Concerns not being heard
* Eye rolling or shoulder shrugging when questions were asked
* Assumptions made that people were onboard and aware of changes
* Not knowing the impact the changes would have to people’s work
* Disappointing looks when questions were raised
* People rearranging their work hours for meetings
* Meetings starting 20 minutes late
* No acknowledgement for the tardiness
* Showing up 45 minutes late for an event the group was hosting

The leaders felt their visit was positive and productive.

The reaction of the team was:
” Why did they bother to come.”
“They don’t care”.

I think of a leader as being there for your team.
For me that means:

* Supporting the team through transitions
* Listening & hearing concerns
* Addressing questions
* Communicating changes
* Explaining what the changes mean to them
* Being available & present
* Showing up on time to meetings
* Respecting others time

What experiences have you had that have left you unsettled?

Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is this weekend and living in New England there has been a lot of talk about the game.

What has been interesting to me is the the leadership lessons that can be learned from Tom Brady and Coach Belichick.

The key lessons from my observations of watching them over the years are:

1. Learning & Continuous Improvement Mindset
2. Importance of the entire team – everyone has to do their part
3. Preparation & Planning
4. Focus on what’s important – “Do your job!”
5. Forward thinking
6. Positive Attitude, a focus on the positive rather than the negative
7. Humility
8. Resilience
9. Trust
10. Importance of Support
11. Self-care
