Coaching at EW Live

I attended the Emerging Women Live conference in San Francisco.  I was honored to also be a coach at the conference.  It was a great opportunity for me.  It was great to coach some amazing women.

Confidence

Recently, My daughter and I went to see Meghan Trainor in concert. As part of our package, we got to attend soundcheck and meet her. As part of the soundcheck session, Meghan graciously let the people in attendance ask her any question they wanted to. I found one question asked by a young girl to be intriguing. The question was “how do you have so much confidence to perform on stage?” Meghan’s response was an interesting one. She said that she gets nervous before she performs but she does it anyway. She also said being a songwriter and writing songs about being confident and feeling good about yourself that people can then sing builds her up too. I thought it was a great example of having the right mindset and practicing what you want. To have confidence, you need to believe in yourself and have a positive attitude. Some would also say “fake it till you make it”. Sometimes a mindset shift is all that may be needed to achieve what you want.thumb_img_4572_1024

Stepping stones

Have you ever had a moment in your life when you wondered what are you doing? You get up in the morning, drive to work, go into your office, answer email and attend meetings then go back to your car and start to drive home and wonder what you did all day. You’re tired from fighting fires, cleaning up messes and trying to get things done but at the end of the day you wonder what you actually got done. What was the accomplishment?

Many sources will tell you to prioritize your work. Focus only on the top three things. Do the hardest thing first…. that’s not bad advice but have you ever looked at priorities in regards to your life?

What is most important to you? Is it your job, your health, your family, your… We often get hung up on the day to day or slip into autopilot mode. When you look at things from only this perspective you miss out and sacrifice on other areas of your life and most of us don’t realize it until it’s too late.

I look at setting priorities for my life as stepping stones. My first stone would be a place to brainstorm and reflect. A place where I may ponder what is it I really want for my life? Who and what is most important to me?

When you step back, reflect and look at your life from this perspective, shift happens. When you can consciously set your priorities for your life, you do things with a sense of purpose. You make better choices and decisions. You gain clarity to what is most important to you and start to make changes.
